Traveling Abroad: Sign & Dine Event

Are you leaving the United States during Winter Break? Come to our Sign & Dine event to get your travel signature, eat some snacks, and take some goofy pictures in preparation for your fun trip ahead! We will be in the Office of Global Education (VCH 106) from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 5th. Once your I-20 or DS-2019 is signed, you are free to travel the world. Hope to see you there!

Don’t forget! If your visa is expired or will expire during your travels, you will need to renew it before reentering the United States. Make sure to read through our travel tips on our website, which focuses on the documents you may want to take before leaving the U.S.

Student Spotlight: Meet Xuezhi Wang

Xuezhu Wang is a sophomore international student from Shenyang, China. Xuezhu decided to major in nursing with a minor in psychology in order to fulfill her passion for doing good in the world. She says, “I really like to take care of other people. You can do that as a doctor, but then you miss out on the human interaction that makes [healthcare] so special.” After graduation, Xuezhu wants to get hands on experience working as a nurse before going back to grad school to become a nurse practitioner.

Club Spotlight: The Chinese Student Association

The Chinese Student Association (CSA) is a student cultural organization whose goal is to create a welcoming community that makes Chinese students feel at home. Additionally, CSA hosts several events throughout the semester that help bring people together and increase awareness about Chinese culture.

CSA is one of several student organization hosting Asian Culture Night this Friday, November 22nd. This event is intended to promote and celebrate Asian culture with dancing, games, food, and more! Asian Culture Night will take place from 6 PM to 10 PM in the Kent Student Center’s Multicultural Room 206 and all are invited to attend.

Graduation Reception

Attention December graduates! As you prepare for commencement, we hope that you take a moment to reflect on your accomplishments. Graduation is a milestone; in just a few weeks, you will join the ranks of over 241,000 former students as proud Kent State University alumni. The Offices of Global Education, International Student Affairs, and the Alumni Association would like to recognize your achievements as an international graduate by presenting you with a graduation stole. Graduation stoles are garments worn at graduation to denote outstanding achievement and membership within a community. International Cook-Off from 6 to 8 p.m. in the KSC Ballroom
Enjoy foods from around the world, prepared by teams of KSU international students. Bring your appetite – for food and culture – and vote for the 2019 People’s Choice cuisine from among food and beverages from six international cultures! This event is free and open to the KSU community.

Tree City Turkey Trot 5K Race at 9 a.m. in Fred Fuller Park
Kent Parks and Recreation is hosting a 5K race (with prizes for 1-3 place winners!). There will also be a good drive for Kent Social Services. Registration and more details here. 
 
Thanksgiving Zumbathon from 9 to 11 a.m. at Kent Parks & Rec Fitness Center
Start your holiday by dancing the morning away! $5 for members ($10 for non-members). 14 years to adults are welcome!

February 12th
International Student Pitch Contest from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Great Lakes Science Center Cleveland, Ohio
International Students with talent and experience in their fields will be pitching their ideas and competing for amazing prizes. The final call for submissions is January 24. For more information and registration, email Supriya Tamang at supriya@globalcleveland.org.
