International Education Week

International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of State and Education. Created in 2000 the week was created is now celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide. At Kent State, we celebrate IEW with dozens of events across campus that showcase diversity and the benefits of international education worldwide. Check out the International Education Week website to learn more about IEW 2019 and to view the growing list of events that will be hosted on campus November 18-22nd.

International Cook-Off

Do you love to cook? Are you a foodie who loves exploring the tastes and cuisines from near and far? On Thursday, November 21st, six teams will compete for the title International Cook-Off Champion. International students are invited to form teams of 4-6 to enter the competition. Interested in competing? Enter your team here. Registration closes October 18th.

Student Spotlight: Meet Nitya Mittal

Nitya Mittal is a sophomore international from Mumbai, India pursuing a degree in Biotechnology with a minor in Management. Nitya wants a career in the research field—but not as a researcher herself. Instead, she hopes to leverage her business minor and experience in leadership into a management position that allows her to work more in the business perspective of research science. Nitya currently holds four leadership positions as the President of Centennial Court E/F Hall Council, President of Kent Indian Association, Program Chair of Biotechnology Student Organization, and FYE Student Success Leader, and she’s always looking for more ways to engage meaningfully with others.

The Kent Indian Association

The Kent Indian Association (KIA) is a cultural student organization aimed to help Indian students feel more at home and spread awareness of Indian culture. It’s a close-knit community that provides outreach support, hosts large annual events, and brings together people from all walks of life to celebrate Indian culture. Everyone is invited to their big event of the semestera huge party on November 3 to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights.

Student Multicultural Center

The SMC offers all members of the KSU community the opportunity to have experiences outside of the classroom that will enhance their awareness of social and cultural differences. They provide support to underrepresented students by holding events on campus throughout the school year to raise awareness. For more information visit the SMC website.

Coordinated Community Response Team Survey

The Coordinated Community Response Team (which is committed to ending personal power-based violence at Kent State) is preparing cultural competency trainings for professionals who work on sexual and relationship violence cases. This includes law enforcement, Student Conduct Hearing staff, and members of our Sexual Assault Response Team. We want to hear from YOU about how your identify and culture shape your interactions with these providers and what we can include in the trainings to make sure all of our students receive the best possible care.

Are you Career Ready?: An International Career Workshop from 4-5 pm in KSC 303
A representative from the Office of Career Exploration and Development will share tips on how to utilize the National Association of Colleges and Employers Competences (NACE) to understand what employers are looking for when interviewing candidates for full- and part-time jobs.

Glass Workshop leaves at 11 am from OGE
Join the Office of Global Education during Fall Break as we travel to Larchmere Fire Works (Shaker Heights, OH) to make your own glass artwork. The cost is $40 ($62 for international scholars and domestic students). Learn more and register online here.

Cultural Café from 4-5:30 pm in KSC 310 A/B
Learn about the island nation of Mauritius and about Military/Veteran culture. Also enjoy delicious foods from both. The event is free and open to students, faculty, and staff. No registration required.

Let's ROCK! from 5 pm - 6 pm Garden Room Kent Library 1st floor
Learn strategies to be successful in college with a variety of interesting activities to experience. Free admission and food.

Groups will leave with a guide to several historic and haunted places around downtown Kent. Tickets are $12-15 and are available online.

The Zonta Club of Hudson is hosting a community screening of the award-winning documentary film Little Stones. Admission is free a Q&A with the award winning filmmaker, Sophia Kruz will follow.
