Academic Success Center Seeking Tutors
UNLV's Academic Success Center (ASC) is currently recruiting both graduate and undergraduate students interested in tutoring undergraduate students at UNLV. ASC is especially interested in math, statistics, chemistry, physics, and engineering tutors. Tutors must work a minimum of five hours a week and maintain a 2.75 semester GPA and 3.0 cumulative GPA. The UNLV Writing Center is open!
Students are welcome to make an appointment to discuss writing strategies and receive feedback on any piece of academic or professional writing. The Writing Center’s fall 2021 services and hours are as follows:
In-person consultations (located in CDC Building 3) are open on Sunday 12-5 p.m., Monday-Thursday 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and Friday 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
Virtual consultation hours are available Sunday 12-6 p.m., Monday-Thursday 5-8 p.m., and Friday 3-7 p.m.
Satellite locations for walk-in consultations occur on Monday and Wednesday 5-8 p.m. at Dayton South Complex and Tuesday and Thursday 5-8 p.m. in the Lied Library Amargosa Room.
Submissions to the Online Writing Lab (OWL) for a 24-hour minimum turnaround can be made virtually through the Writing Center website at any time.
Quick questions that can be answered in 10 minutes or less may be submitted in person, via email or Google Chat at writingcenter@unlv.edu, or over the phone by calling 702-895-3908.
Students who cannot access MyUNLV to schedule an appointment should call or email the UNLV Writing Center with their name, email address, and NSHE ID.

Sept. 15: Fall 2021 Student Health Insurance Waiver Deadline
Sept. 15 is the last day to waive out of the fall 2021 health insurance for graduate students!
Students must complete a waiver once every academic year as waivers completed in previous years don't carry over.
If students don't complete a new waiver for the 2021-22 academic year, the charge will remain on their account and they'll be enrolled in the student health insurance.

Sept. 29: Fall 2021 Medallion Deadline
The Graduate College’s Medallion Program honors exceptionally involved and high-achieving students. Graduate students who have accumulated 100 points using the point system outlined on the program's webpage can apply for a Medallion to be worn at Commencement.
For students graduating in fall 2021, completed application forms must be emailed to the Graduate College by Sept. 29.
Fall 2021 Graduation Deadlines and Custom Academic Regalia Deadline
If you’re planning to graduate this semester, please keep in mind that the final day to submit an application for graduation through your MyUNLV account is Oct. 1. If you’re graduating with a doctoral degree and would like to purchase custom academic regalia through the UNLV Bookstore, the deadline to submit an order is Oct. 19.

UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield will host an MSI Student Success Summit for the campus community on Sept. 24. President Whitfield will kick off the summit, sharing his vision for student success at UNLV and the university's role and responsibilities as a Minority-Serving, Hispanic-Serving, and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving institution. The day's events will also include a poster session, a student panel discussing what it means to be successful at UNLV, and a series of break-out sessions.

"How I Tackled Post-Ph.D. Imposter Syndrome"
Kelsey Inouye, a recent Ph.D. graduate from Oxford University, learned that imposter syndrome has a long-lasting toll on some graduate students even after graduation. She found that, among other self-care activities, social media breaks and a daily running routine helped to curb the toll of imposter syndrome on her mental health.
