On-Campus Employment

Many of you have found on-campus employment and we are excited you have! If you haven’t, learn more on Handshake through your FlashLine account. We wanted to pass on a few reminders to help you maintain your status.

  1. You are not permitted to work more than 20 hours per week while class is in session.
  2. During the breaks (summer, winter, and spring), KSU policy allows you to work up to 28 hours.
  3. Hours are not calculated in each job, but all jobs combined. If you have multiple jobs, the total hours are not allowed to surpass 20 or 28 hours/week, depending on whether classes are in session.
  4. Lastly, for students on a J-1 visa, you need to discuss any and all on-campus employment with ISSS before starting so that we can update your DS-2019.

Don't work too hard, but have a bit of fun and stay in status!

Are You a Student and a Parent? How Can We Help You?

Are you a parent attending Kent State University? If so, the Center for Adult and Veteran Services invites you to participate in an open forum so we may learn more about students who are pregnant, parenting, or a guardian for minor dependents to better serve your needs. As an incentive for focus group participation, a total of 10 gift cards for $15 will be awarded. The event will be held on Wednesday, Feb 12th at 6:00 pm in the Gerald H. Read Center in room 215 of White Hall.

If you are interested in participating in the parenting student focus group, please RVSP by February 5th. Your thoughtful participation is appreciated!

We Want to Highlight YOU

Want to be our student spotlight? We will highlight someone every week throughout the academic year. If you are interested in being interviewed, email Mary Elliott at mellio19@kent.edu by putting "International Student Profile" in the subject line. Check out previous student profiles here.

Conversation Partners

Sponsored by the Office of International Affiars, the Conversation Partner Program at Kent State University is a volunteer program that pairs international students with students from the United States. Once an international student and domestic students are paired, they meet weekly for one hour to have an informational conversation in English. The program not only helps international students develop English skills, it helps build cultural awareness as well as rewarding friendships between students. Learn more about the Conversation Partners program and and register to become one here.
