Dear graduate students,
I hope you are doing well and progressing smoothly through the semester. I’m reaching out today with information regarding the election, COVID-19 reporting, 2021-22 funding opportunities, and the Graduate Student Life and Climate Survey.
- Election Day: Tomorrow is Election Day. Record numbers of Americans are voting in this election – more than 100 million have cast early ballots! If you weren't able to vote early, Tuesday, Nov. 3 is Election Day. You have the power to help determine the future of this country by making your voice heard through the ballot box. Even if you aren’t already registered to vote, you can still register and vote on Election Day in Nevada! Here are some tips to help you vote:
- You can check your registration status at
vote.org.
- Find the
closest polling place and polling hours.
- Make sure you bring the proper identification required by our state, explained
here.
- If you still have an absentee ballot that you have not mailed in yet, don’t mail it. Drop it off at a
designated drop-off location.
- If you mailed your ballot already, make sure to
track your ballot to see that it was received.
- If you have any trouble voting or hear of any problems, please call 866-OUR-VOTE.
Whoever wins the Presidential and other elections, the outcome will determine the trajectory of this country in the coming years. Exercise your right to vote so that you don’t have any post-election regrets.

COVID-19 Reporting: UNLV launched a comprehensive, real-time COVID-19 dashboard that reflects all cases reported to the university dating back to March 25. Cases are reported by students, faculty, and staff and whether the individual was on campus while infectious. Visit the
confirmed cases page to see the new dashboard.
Anyone who tests positive should complete the
online reporting form to ensure the individual’s privacy is maintained. Submitting a COVID-19 report initiates a well-defined series of steps on campus. UNLV contact tracers assisting the Southern Nevada Health District call each reported individual to identify close contacts in need of quarantine and to determine if additional actions are necessary.
Below are detailed steps to take if you have COVID-19:
- Complete the
online reporting form.
- Provide as much detail as possible when you hear from contact tracers to assist them in notifying others who may be sick.
- Communicate with your instructors regarding making up assignments and coursework.
- Request contact from the
Student Health Center for medical advice.
- Utilize
Counseling and Psychological Services or other mental health support offered by UNLV.
- If you live on campus, notify your RA to be moved to a single room for self-isolation. The university will provide twice daily meal delivery for students with meal plans during quarantine and isolation.
- Note that violating SNHD orders to self-isolate or self-quarantine is punishable by state law.
- FAFSA/Alternate Need Form: UNLV has extended the priority deadline for the 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Alternate Need Form to Nov. 15. Students must complete the 2021-22 FAFSA or Alternate Need Form to be considered for financial aid opportunities during fall 2021, spring 2022, and summer 2022, so please be sure to submit one of these forms as soon as possible.
- Scholarship/fellowship applications: Every year, graduate students are eligible to apply for a variety of merit-based scholarships and fellowships through the Grad Rebel Gateway. Applications are now being accepted through Dec. 1 for these scholarships and fellowships. View these scholarships and fellowships on the Current Student Funding webpage.
- Graduate Student Life and Climate Survey: The annual Graduate Student Life and Climate Survey was recently emailed to your Rebelmail account. Please consider taking 20 minutes to complete this important survey, which helps the Graduate College and your graduate/professional program faculty improve the programming and support available to you. Students who elect to provide their Rebelmail address at the end of the completed survey will be entered in a drawing for one of 10 $1,000 scholarships. Your email will not be associated with your survey responses. Please complete the survey by Dec. 11.
Please take care, stay safe, and contact us if we can answer any questions.
All my best,
|
