Working Off-Campus: OPT for December Grads

If you are graduating in December, it is time to decide what you want to do after graduation. There are four different options available to you once you complete your program. You have until February 17th to decide whether you would like to:

  • Apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT),
  • Apply to a new program at KSU,
  • Transfer your SEVIS to a new institution to start a new program, or
  • Leave the United States.

Many of our students choose to apply for OPT, which allows you to work for up-to one year following your graduation, but the application process can be confusing. In order to assist you through the process, we offer a minimum of 3 OPT Workshops each semester. Dates and times can be found on our OPT Guide, along with the link to register. Read through our OPT Tutorial beforehand. Can’t make one of the OPT Workshops? Read the OPT Tutorial and check our advising times below to talk to an ISSS Advisor.

Student Spotlight: Reika Nakano

Reika Nakano is a Japanese exchange student studying Business Management. Although she’s originally from the small town of Hokkaido, Japan, Reika’s education has been an international affair; before coming to Kent State, Reika attended schools in New Zealand, Canada, and Tokyo. This is her first semester studying in the United States, but she’s excited to experience everything that Kent State has to offer.
