Dear graduate faculty,

We continue to think about you during these times and hope you are doing well.

We are reaching out today with a few student support-related items:
  • Our Leadership & Professional Development Academy provides comprehensive leadership, career prep, and professional development opportunities to graduate and professional students. In order to align with students’ needs and desires in the year ahead – especially considering the challenges we’re facing with COVID-19, pervasive social injustice, and the economic crisis – we are asking you to please complete a quick survey to share your thoughts on the type of offerings that you think students would find most helpful through the Leadership & Professional Development Academy. Classroom, lab, and field work are crucial to preparing students to reach their goals, and we hope our Leadership & Professional Development Academy supplemental training provides them an even more well-rounded graduate experience. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on how we can best support students’ professional development.

  • Our Leadership & Professional Development Academy and other campus units are offering several workshops remotely this summer. We hope you’ll encourage students to take advantage of the opportunities found on our Student Calendar.

  • The Graduate College, UNLV Counseling and Psychological Services, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Northern Nevada are hosting a webinar that informs and supports family members and friends who have loved ones with a mental health condition. The webinar, which will take place on June 24 from 3:30-5 p.m., will provide an opportunity to connect with individuals with shared experiences, reduce mental health stigma, and provide resources for additional support. Learn more and RSVP.

  • The Graduate & Professional Student Association is accepting applications until July 15 for its Student Researcher Award Program, which assists students in purchasing research materials, presenting their work at conferences, and supporting the completion of their degree program. Learn more and encourage your students to apply.

  • We have extended the deadline for our Grad Rebel Advantage program, which helps prepare UNLV undergraduates for graduate school at UNLV or elsewhere. If you know of any undergraduate students who are considering graduate school, please encourage them to apply for the program by July 31.

  • This fall’s New Graduate Student Orientation and New Graduate Assistant Orientation will be held remotely. Beginning in August, new graduate students and graduate assistants will have access to the modules in their WebCampus/Canvas account.

  • We are continuing to offer thesis/dissertation office hours every Tuesday and Thursday from 12-2 p.m. Students can email grad.td@unlv.edu at least 48 hours in advance to schedule a time to meet online.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students. Please reach out with any questions or if there’s anything we can do to assist you.

Please take care,
