Working Off-Campus: OPT for December Grads

If you are graduating in December, it is time to decide what you want to do after graduation. There are four different options available to you once you complete your program. You have until February 17th to decide whether you would like to:

  • Apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT),
  • Apply to a new program at KSU,
  • Transfer your SEVIS to a new institution to start a new program, or
  • Leave the United States.

Many of our students choose to apply for OPT, which allows you to work for up-to one year following your graduation, but the application process can be confusing. In order to assist you through the process, we offer a minimum of 3 OPT Workshops each semester. Dates and times can be found on our OPT Guide, along with the link to register. Read through our OPT Tutorial beforehand. Can’t make one of the OPT Workshops? Read the OPT Tutorial and make an appointment with an ISSS advisor.

Could you use $100 next semester?

We get it – it’s the end of the semester. You’re being asked to complete final assignments in all of your classes. It’s busy. When you have a moment, though, we hope that you will tell us how you are doing at Kent State (by taking the survey below). What’s working? What’s frustrating? How has your experience been so far? We will use your feedback to examine our approach to international student success. As a thank you for your time, Kent State will award five $100 scholarships to students who complete the survey by December 16th.
