UNLV Planning In-person Commencement
UNLV is planning to host in-person commencement ceremonies for the classes of 2020 and 2021. Pending approval from state and local authorities and in accordance with public health guidelines, events will be held at Sam Boyd Stadium on May 14 and 15.

COVID-19 Vaccine Registration Open to All UNLV Faculty, Staff, Students and Their Families
Gov. Steve Sisolak held a press conference on March 17 to announce timing for the remainder of Nevadans to receive their COVID-19 vaccines. The governor announced that:
Only retail pharmacies will begin offering vaccinations to those 16 years old and older with underlying medical conditions beginning Monday, March 22.
All Nevadans will be eligible at all vaccination sites beginning Monday, April 5.
All students, faculty, staff, and their family members can register for appointments at the UNLV site.

Free Rapid COVID Antigen Testing Extended to June 21
The UNLV Student Health Center (SHC) and Faculty and Staff Treatment (FAST) Center recently announced that free rapid COVID antigen testing for students, faculty, staff, and dependents (age 12 years and older) has been extended to June 21, 2021. Rapid COVID antigen testing is available to those with and without symptoms to determine if an individual is currently infected with COVID-19. Test results are usually available in approximately one hour.
Those without symptoms may call the SHC/FAST Center Laboratory at 702-895-0280 to schedule an appointment. Those experiencing COVID symptoms are encouraged to call the SHC (for students) at 702-895-3370 or the FAST Center (for faculty, staff and dependents) at 702-895-0630 to schedule an appointment with a health care provider for assessment and lab testing.
COVID-19 HEERF Funding Available for Students
UNLV will receive additional federal funding to help students who are negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic as part of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. Students can complete a couple of steps to assist the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships in assessing their eligibility and distributing awards to eligible students. Learn more.
Cindy Kha Receives 2021 Sam Lieberman Regents' Award for Student Scholarship
Cindy Kha, a doctoral student in Biological Sciences, was recently awarded a Sam Lieberman Regents' Award for Student Scholarship, formerly known as the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents' Scholar Award. The Sam Lieberman Regents' Award for Student Scholarship recognizes students who possess distinguished academic accomplishments, leadership ability, and service contributions. The Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentorship award is being given to Dr. Jennifer Pharr, College of Public Health, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health. This award recognizes graduate faculty who mentor graduate students in teaching, research and service; provide sound counsel and advocacy on academic and nonacademic issues; and guide students toward the successful completion of degrees.
Graduate Student Access Childcare Scholarship and Parental Leave
Being a graduate student and a parent is no easy feat! That's why the Graduate College offers the need-based Graduate Student Access Childcare Scholarship to graduate students with young dependents as well as parental leave to graduate assistants for childbirth or the placement of a child for adoption or foster care. Virtual Student Events and Expanded Ethnicity/Tribal Affiliation Survey
Students received an email to their Rebelmail address from Involvement UNLV on Tuesday, March 16 regarding a Virtual Student Events and Expanded Ethnicity/Tribal Affiliation Survey. The first 200 students to respond to this survey will receive $20 RebelCash deposited directly to their RebelCards, and all students completing the survey will be entered to win one of six $500 RebelCash prizes. Results of the survey will be used to assess virtual student events and online involvement opportunities during the pandemic. This survey is also collecting a disaggregated or expanded list of ethnicity and tribal affiliation at UNLV. Questions about the project should be directed to

As students continue to study from home, UNLV's Office of Information Technology continues to offer the following resources:
The UNLV technology loan program allows students to borrow technology, like laptops, for remote learning for the duration of the semester.
RebelApps allows students to access 40+ software titles that they may need for class on any device, anytime, anywhere.
At the Lied Library circulation desk, students can borrow laptops with Microsoft Office and Respondus LockDown Browser to use for up to four hours for online exams.
In partnership with Cox Communications, students in need of internet access for remote learning may be eligible to receive discounted internet service through the Cox Cares program. Internet service, after the subsidy, can cost as little as $15/month.
The UNLV Bookstore is now selling Commencement regalia. Students interested may order online. The deadline to order custom doctoral regalia is March 26.
March 26: Final Day to Submit Application for Graduation
As was done in 2020, the Graduate College has extended spring 2021 graduation deadlines to support graduate students during this challenging time. The final day to submit an application for spring 2021 graduation without a late fee is March 26. Students applying for graduation on or after March 2 will need to email grad.rpc@unlv.edu to request the graduation application be added to their
MyUNLV account, as the option will not be available automatically in MyUNLV after March 1. More information on extended spring 2021 graduation deadlines can be found on the Graduation Deadlines webpage.
March 29: UNLV Graduate College Mural Project Proposal
The Graduate College invites proposals from UNLV students, faculty, and staff for a large-scale mural on one of two interior walls in the University Gateway Building
. Artists, designers, and creatives may propose to do an original, hand-painted mural or an original graphic design that the Graduate College will have printed as a large-scale wall wrap and installed. Both mediums are welcome. Reasonable mural painting supplies will be funded based on approved budgets and then purchased through the Graduate College following UNLV purchasing practices. In addition, selected muralists will receive honoraria ($1,500) after completion of the work. Proposals are due March 29, 2021. The project must be completed by July 31, 2021. Learn more and

April 30: ¡Lánzate!/Take Off! Travel Program
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Southwest Airlines are accepting applications through April 30 for the 17th Annual ¡Lánzate!/Take Off! Travel Program
. Through this national initiative, HACU and Southwest Airlines will award roundtrip flights to students across the country who travel at least 200 miles from home to pursue a higher education and meet the eligibility criteria, including the submission of a required essay. Selected students receive tickets for use to travel between home and college or university.
Attendees of this webinar will be able to identify growing sectors for Ph.D. graduates coming out of the humanities and social sciences programs, coordinate successful networking with other professionals, and recognize common challenges for humanities and social sciences Ph.D. graduates transitioning to non-academic careers.
