Dear graduate students,
I genuinely hope that you are well. My thoughts are with all of you who are impacted and struggling as we approach the end of an unprecedented semester.
As you know, the number of COVID-19 cases in Nevada and around the country continue to rise. Our UNLV community has done a good job keeping the number of cases on campus relatively low, but out of an abundance of caution I have decided to return our Graduate College team to fully remote work. We have had an extraordinarily low number of walk-ins; and with the Governor’s encouragement to stay home for the next two weeks, it seems prudent to close the Graduate College’s physical office at the University Gateway Building beginning Monday, Nov. 16. This includes the Gateway Graduate Commons student computer lab, which has also been underutilized this semester. The Lied Graduate Commons on the second floor of Lied Library remains open for access to computers, technology, and a study space for graduate students.
Our Graduate College team will continue to provide 100% of our services remotely, as we have done since March 17. We are committed to your success and progression. You can still reach us from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays via email, phone, or Webex.
Please visit our COVID-19 updates webpage for information on accommodations, processes, resources, and more specific to the graduate community as well as UNLV’s coronavirus updates webpage for university-wide information.
On a more celebratory note, please save the dates for the virtual Commencement events for our spring, summer, and fall graduates.
- Our university-wide Doctoral Commencement reception and ceremony will be taking place on Monday, Dec. 14 beginning with a very special and creative virtual reception that will allow graduates, their families, and faculty to mingle at private tables at 3 p.m. The official university-wide virtual Doctoral Commencement ceremony will begin at 4 p.m.
- On Tuesday, Dec. 15, we’ll hold the official UNLV Commencement ceremonies followed by college-specific virtual events for bachelor’s and master’s graduates.
- Please stay tuned for more information about all virtual Commencement ceremonies.
Please take care and do reach out if we can be of any assistance. We’re here to help and support your continued success during this very trying semester.
Warm regards,
