Future Cyclones of Power Conference

Iowa State University and the Office of Admissions are pleased to invite you to participate in the 2020 Future Cyclones of Power Conference on December 5, 2020!

Future Cyclones of Power is a virtual conference aiming to empower underrepresented students by providing essential tools to challenge and succeed in your prospective academic institutions! This event will help you navigate the college process through advanced workshops and keynotes, focusing on subjects from scholarship strategies to identity representation in college coursework.

11am-11:30am	True Colors Activity (Anita Mendoza, Yakima Valley Community College Completion and Career Coordinator) An activity to promote individual differences by becoming aware of your own and learning to work with other diverse personalities.
11:30am-11:45am	True Colors Breakout Room Activity
11:45am-12:15pm	Scholarship Strategy and Success with Anita Mendoza—PART I A presentation detailing the facts and myths of scholarship application preparation with additional strategies for writing successful personal statement essays.
12:15pm-1:05pm	LUNCH
1:05pm-1:35pm	Scholarship Strategy and Success with Anita Mendoza—PART II A writing exercise to help students begin to consider successful methods for answering scholarship application questions.
1:35pm-1:45pm	Scholarship Breakout Room Writing Discussion
1:45pm-2:15pm	Student Panel Panel lead by current university students from underrepresented backgrounds to discuss their experiences, how they have faced challenges, and answer participant questions.
2:15pm-2:20pm	BREAK
2:20pm-2:50pm	Telling Your Story: Advocating for Yourself and Others (Yasmine Smith, Smith & Mendoza PLLC Managing Partner) A presentation that addresses how to use your voice and storytelling methods to advocate for yourself and others in higher education.
