With increased production, Mercury now rapidly delivers Pro XS outboards
in 175‑300hp categories

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 5, 2020) — Having increased production by more than 50 percent since last year's Bassmaster Classic, Mercury Marine made sure that, by tomorrow's launch of this year's event, the company is well‑positioned to deliver its newest, state‑of‑the‑art Pro XS outboard engines for which professional and competitive anglers alike have been clamoring.

"When we unveiled our 4.6‑liter V8 and 3.4‑liter V6 four‑stroke outboard engines spanning the 175 to 300 horsepower range in 2018, the engines' performance, light weight, fuel efficiency and easy maintenance features lit up the marketplace," said Randy Caruana, Mercury vice president of sales for the Americas and Asia‑Pacific. "The demand for our V8s and V6s remains incredibly strong in all of our outboard product lines — and particularly for our Pro XS models. The Pro XS engines give anglers the right power‑to‑weight ratio for unmatched performance and awesome sound that make these anglers the ones to watch at the ramps," he said.

"We know that the Bassmaster Classic generates a lot of buzz and highlights the competitive performance of these outstanding engines. Now that we have more capacity, we can meet the higher level of demand for these engines. Likewise, our Mercury dealers are delighted to be able to deliver engines quickly and stock these engines in preparation for the additional orders that the Bassmaster Classic will bring in," Caruana added.

The 175hp Pro XS is a V6 and the 200, 225, 250 and 300hp Pro XS models are V8s. These engines feature transient spark technology designed to generate superior torque for explosive hole shot and acceleration. They also have Mercury's high‑performance TorqueMaster gear case, which is optimized for acceleration, top speed and handling.

Significantly, these Pro XS models feature the lightest weight among Mercury's brands in these horsepower categories. In fact, bucking conventional wisdom regarding comparisons between four‑stroke and two‑stroke platforms, the V8 Pro XS models are the same weight as their two‑stroke forbears, all while packing more displacement and two more cylinders! Mercury has engineered the V8 and V6 four‑stroke Pro XS models to deliver blistering speed, powerful acceleration, legendary reliability, incredible fuel efficiency and a lot more. Consumers won't find lighter engines than the Mercury V8 and V6 Pro XS models in their respective platforms and horsepower classes.

The result of these engineering and design breakthroughs is a set of outboard engines that outperform their closest competitors, as shown in the example below:

"In the second half of last year, Mercury undertook a herculean effort to expand production in response to demand for the V8s and V6s that exceeded even our most optimistic estimations," said John Buelow, Mercury vice president of global operations. "While continuing to uphold our maximum output levels, we brought in and set up additional equipment, trained more employees, rearranged floor space and managed to boost production by 50 percent."
