International Education Week 

International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of State and Education. Created in 2000 the week was created is now celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide. At Kent State, we celebrate IEW with dozens of events across campus that showcase diversity and the benefits of international education worldwide. Check out the International Education Week website to learn more about IEW 2019 and to view the growing list of events that will be hosted on campus November 18-22nd.

Part of an international student organization that is hosting an event for IEW? We’d love to help with promotion – submit your event to the IEW Events list online!

International Cook-Off

Do you love to cook? Are you a foodie who loves exploring the tastes and cuisines from near and far? On Thursday, November 21st, six teams will compete for the title International Cook-Off Champion. International students are invited to form teams of 4-6 to enter the competition. Interested in competing? Registration opens October 1st.

 

Student Spotlight: Hassan Afzal & Ahood Al Mamaari

Two international students from Kent State share their volunteering experiences and stories through Community Engaged Learning (CEL), a Kent State Organization educating volunteers of the social justice issues within the university and surrounding communities. Even though Hassan Afzal and Ahood Al Mamaari are from two different corners of the world, they share a similar passion and drive when it comes to bettering the communities they are a part of.

Coordinated Community Response Team Servey

The Coordinated Community Response Team (which is committed to ending personal power-based violence at Kent State) is preparing cultural competency trainings for professionals who work on sexual and relationship violence cases. This includes law enforcement, Student Conduct Hearing staff, and members of our Sexual Assault Response Team. We want to hear from YOU about how your identify and culture shape your interactions with these providers and what we can include in the trainings to make sure all of our students receive the best possible care.

Apple Picking leaves at 12:30 pm from OGE
Enjoy a crisp fall day by joining OGE for the Fall Festival at Rittman Orchards. Tour the orchard, visit the farm market, enjoy live music, and pick a bag of apples to take home. The cost of this event is $10 ($12 for international scholars and for domestic students). Learn more and register online here.

Canadian Immigration Programs workshop 11:30 am – 1 pm White Hall 200
The Consulate General of Canada will send a representative to KSU to share information about Canada’s immigration programs. Learn about Express Entry and explore opportunities to live and work in Canada after graduation.

Planning to travel outside of the US for fall break? If so, don’t forget to obtain your travel signature! Join us in the Office of Global Education from 1:30-4 p.m. on Thursday, October 3rd for a few snacks and to obtain your same day travel signature.

Glass Workshop leaves at 11 am from OGE
Join the Office of Global Education during Fall Break as we travel to Larchmere Fire Works (Shaker Heights, OH) to make your own glass artwork. The cost is $40 ($62 for international scholars and domestic students). Learn more and register online here.

Little Stones Film Screening 7 pm at the Kent State University Kiva Auditorium
The Zonta Club of Hudson is hosting a community screening of the award-winning documentary film Little Stones. Admission is free a Q&A with the award winning filmmaker, Sophia Kruz will follow. There will be a reception in the Schwebel Room on the 3rd floor of the KSC after. Visit the film's website here.
